The Sacred Monastery of the God-Trodden Mount Sinai, also called St Catherine's Monastery, is located in a gorge at the foot of Mount Sinai in Egypt. It is one of the oldest inhabited Christian monasteries in the world, home to an order of Eastern Orthodox monks. The monastery is said to be placed on the very location where God appeared to Moses in the Burning Bush, with a chapel dedicated to a tree said to be the bush itself. The monastery also contains the world's oldest continually operating library.
The town of St Catherine has grown up around the monastery over the years, and has facilities for catering to people coming to see the location.
